Metahuman Classes

Edition #1

Botany

Hello, Metahumans! Welcome to a new edition of 'Metahuman Classes'. In this blog, we talk about the different classes we have on our site. This week we'll talk about... Botany!

Why do we learn it?

When you first think about it, you might not realize how important Botany can be. We want to become superheroes or villains, why would we have to know how plants work? Well, let me tell you, it could come in handy. Plants are especially helpful if you have a power where you need them, but not only then. Did you know that some plants have certain qualities which you could use for your missions? No? Well, now you know it. Plus, plants look really nice to have in your room, so it is nice to know how to take care of them. I bet this already makes you see why Botany could be so important.

What do we learn?

In Botany, you learn everything there is to know about different plants, from flowers to trees. You learn what they need to survive, which plants can be useful to you, which plants are totally not useful, about their growth cycle, and much more. Does that sound interesting to you? Then certainly check this subject out!

Interviews

We can't talk about Botany without getting either Calypso Rebelke or Eloise Taylor-Grenville here, am I right? This is why I have an interview with them for you!

Calypso, Master of Botany

Calypso has been the Master of Botany for a little over four months now, and let me tell you, she is doing wonderful.

Interview:

Why did you want to become the Master of Botany and not the Master of another subject?
Funny story, actually! I am actually a Botany/Secondary Sciences Education double major and so teaching Botany online just sounded fun and second-nature!

If you would be the Master of another subject, what would it be?
Both Trickery & Deceit and Villainry, both are really exciting and I love them.

What is your favorite thing about teaching?
Teaching is amazing in a lot of ways, but it best puts things into perspectives you dismissed before or never thought about; you get to hear from perspectives outside of your friend group, outside of your normal conversations, it really is eye opening. I have some submissions from students that are definitely just answering the prompt, but every so often I get a massive submission that absolutely knocks me off my feet, amazing, even! Fully deserving of that Superior grade!

Is there something you think students should know before taking Botany?
Something students should know before taking Botany is that it is a pretty fun and easy class if you have an extra 10 minutes to spare each week. Years 1-3 are fairly basic, 4-6 are a little more exciting with all sorts of field trips and Year 7 is held entirely off-planet! It is very worth it to stick around and have some fun with us!

Eloise, Master's Aide of Botany

Eloise has been Calypso's Master's Aide for also about four months, and I think she was the perfect fit; she's crazy about plants.

Interview:

Why did you choose to become the Master's Aide of Botany instead of another subject?
I choose to apply for Botany because Calypso seemed like a genuinely fun person and back when I joined, I saw her turn into a canary all the time and as a huge fan of turning into birds I decided that oh, this was my stop. Calypso also had this lovely wall post I saw and I kind of didn't think a lot about it and applied.

What is your favorite thing about working with Master Rebelke?
My favorite thing about working with Master Rebelke are the canary (now little monster) takeovers (sorry, I had to be honest on this one).

What is your favorite thing about being a Master's Aide?
My favorite thing about being an MA is both, reading the amazing assignments we get and submitting my own Botany assignments! The first reason is quite understandable, but I'd like to explain the second one. I really enjoy reading the Botany lessons, researching (ironically, I really wasn't very good with botany before I became an MA, because I mostly got too lazy to research), and I just love writing my character in the Botany classes. It kind of is very easy to develop Eloise through the Botany classes cough cough for example, fighting over a plant seems like an interesting thing to develop a character cough cough cough, and I simply love the plot in Calypso's classes!

What is your best tip for students making Botany homework?
My best assignment related tip is making your character grow through the assignments. It's really a thing I personally enjoy doing and since doing assignments is first about having fun for me, it's my number one tip. As I said before, Calypso's classes have an amazing and cool plot, so building the character through them is extremely easy. I think that when you work on the assignment and think about your character's feelings about it, you just kind of get a better understanding of your character, which could lead them to discover absolutely new things about themselves. So yes, I would totally recommend that.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Botany is a fun, but also an important subject. Whenever you have the time, you should certainly go check it out and make some homework on it! Maybe even try to stick around untill the year seven, to see what "off-planet" means.

Are you curious about what subject we might discuss next time? Then stay on the lookout for any new blogs that will get published in the future.
