Movie News:
Teen Titans Make Their Return!

Big news for moviegoers, as a live-action Teen Titans movie is on the way

For those with a large interest in the DC universe and its development from comics and stories to the big screen, it is nothing new to hear that a brand new DC universe is being built and expanded. We already know that this new universe starts out with a brand new Superman movie, which is set to release somewhere in July of 2025, but this is clearly just the beginning. One can not deny that there are many movies and series in production, that we do not know about yet, but lately, we have come to learn the news about one upcoming universe that will make it to the big screen - the Teen Titans. It has been revealed that DC is currently working on developing a live-action Teen Titans movie and that the writer of the screenplay is none other than Ana Nogueira, who also was behind the screenplay of ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’.

Isn’t it about time for a new Teen Titans movie?

It is without a doubt time for a new Teen Titans movie. The universe of Teen Titans is beloved by many, and the universe has only grown in popularity as time has passed. Teen Titans have enjoyed great popularity since the 1980s, and this only grew bigger once again in 2003 when the Teen Titans animated series helped expand the universe further. This series helped make sure that everyone knew what and who Teen Titans were, making them household names just like Superman and Batman. One thing that especially sticks with the viewer regarding the Teen Titans universe, is that they are portrayed less as a team of superheroes working together, and more as a family with its ups and downs, and a much more dysfunctional view of the group together, just like it should be. Cause unlike heroes like Superman and Batman, the Teen Titans is a group of teenagers who are still trying to find their place within the world, and who they might be, while still having to fulfil their duty as superheroes.

The world of Teen Titans on the screen

Teen Titans have had a long life on the screen. From the animated series in 2003, which revolved around the Teen Titans and their fight against their enemy Deathstroke, with a clear view into the unique characters of Teen Titans such as Starfire, Raven and Robin, to the 2013 spin-off ‘Teen Titans Go!’, which is filled with much more comedy, and a fun look into the team and its dynamics. This spin-off has managed to have a large popularity of its own, managing to make it still relevant in this day and age, even allowing the Teen Titans universe to expand further with a theatrical movie from 2019 based upon it.

There has also formerly been an attempt into the live-action of the Teen Titans. Many might know the series The Titans, which was a four-season series that could be seen on HBO Max. Without a doubt, this series was considered to be rather dark with adult themes, with quite graphic violence and language, unlike many other showcases of Teen Titans. Despite this, the movie is a great example of how one can turn the Teen Titans into a real-life action movie, as it perfectly portrays the dysfunctional relationship between the characters. The series might be considered imperfect, but it shows that this new real-life action movie could work incredibly well in the hands of the right people.

When can we expect the new Teen Titans movie?

It is currently unknown exactly when we can expect the new Teen Titans live-action movie. The screenplay writer, Ana Nogueira, was announced to be writing ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ in November 2023, and while that project is currently looking for a director, one could imagine that there is still quite some time before the screenplay for the movie is finished, and the actual directing and filming can begin. It is clear that we are looking for some years before we will see the Teen Titans on our screens in a new movie, but nevertheless, we are excited for a hopefully amazing new movie about our favourite dysfunctional family.
