Superman, also known as Clark Kent, is probably one of the most famous DC Superheroes. However, not everyone seems to know that this beloved superhero has been played by a lot of actors during the years. Through this article, we shall see them together! One... by... one.

Superman Actors before the 2000s

Kirk Alyn: The First Superman Actor

The first actor who played Superman was Kirk Alyn. He played Superman in 1948-1950, and at the time, the television was still black and white. Aside from playing in the Superman series, he also played in Atom Man vs Superman.

George Reeves: The First Superman Actor (According to MH Riddles)

If you do MH riddles every day, you might notice that the answer to "who played the first Superman" was George Reeves. While that is not entirely wrong, as you can see from this list, that was not entirely right either. However, Reeves did play for quite a long time, from 1951 to 1958. He played in Superman and The Mole-Men, Adventures of Superman, and Stamp Day for Superman. He also showed up as a guest in I Love Lucy.

Christopher Reeve: The Most Famous Superman Actor

Not only is he the most famous, he played Superman the longest so far, from 1978 to 1987. Reeve played in Superman, Superman II, Superman III, and to no one's surprise: Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. No wonder he was said to be the most famous.

John Haymes Newton: The Superboy Actor

What is interesting about Newton is that he didn't exactly star in a show called Superman. Instead, his show was called Superboy. However, even though he is called Superboy, he is still Clark Kent, our Superman. He played this role in 1988 - 1989.

Gerard Christopher: The Next Superboy Actor

After Newton, Christopher took the crown of Superboy. Indeed, Christopher continued the role. He played as Superboy from 1989 to 1992, longer than Newton did.

Dean Cain: The First Mentioned Lois

The next known Superman actor is Dean Cain. He became Superman in 1993 in a show called Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. His role ended in 1997, and a litte random fact: this is the first show that has Lois' name on the title.

Tom Welling: The First Superman Actor in the 2000s

Welling's first role as Superman was in Smallville in 2001. He had this role until 2011, and then in 2019, he made a return as Superman in Batwoman, which was a part of Crisis on Infinite Earths. He was said to be small-screen, but those was quite a decade of his career.

Brandon Routh: The Short-Time Superman Actor

Routh only played as Superman in 2006, more specifically in Superman Return. We're not sure why he didn't last for a longer time.

Henry Cavill: The Superman Actor in Movies

Ah, a personal favorite. Henry Cavill is probably the most well-known Superman these days. Rather than in a series, Cavill played in a lot of movies featuring Superman, such as Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, Zack Snyder's Justice League, Black Adam, and The Flash, although the last two was just as a cameo. He became Superman in 2013, and he lasted for quite a long time, until 2023. Will we see him again?

Tyler Hoechlin: The Superman Actor in Series

If Cavill is famous because of movies, Hoechlin is famous because of television series. His role as Superman began in 2016 in Supergirl. He also played in Arrow, The Flash, Batwoman, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow. He even has in own series that started in 2021: Superman & Lois.
