Punchline: Important to the Joker

Who is DC’s Punchline - aka Alexis
Kayne?

A joker, you could almost say. After all, she is known to be the right hand to the well-known Gotham villain and one of our favourites, The Joker. And now she is also the leader of Gotham’s very own Royal Flush Gang. The Joker himself described her as follows: You know, my new friend, Punchline... she might just be the funniest gal I've ever met in my life. She knows this trick with a rusty saw that really puts the boys in stitches. If they survive of course. Yeah, it is safe to say that Punchline has a few tricks up her sleeve, indeed.

The Origins of Punchline

It was only in high school when Alexis Kayne first crossed paths with our beloved Joker. It was on a field trip to a TV studio, where he had hijacked the studio. Alexis was forced to act as a newsreader and had to deliver a message to the citizens of DC’s Gotham. Batman saved Alexis, but her obsession didn’t become one with him. Instead, she believed in the Joker. She even started a whole podcast about him and his past crimes.

Punchline’s Obsession with The Joker

Alexis even started an online podcast about him and his past crimes. Not to bring them down but to mention how great they had been and how much the Joker was needed. This all led to Alexis creating her own costume and starting to poison people throughout Gotham. That got the Joker’s attention, and together, they created a modified version of the Joker Venom. It was in college when Alexis took the name of Punchline, after proving herself to the Joker.

Punchline Taking Part in the Joker War

When she finally became Punchline, Alexis was hired as the new underboss for Joker’s upcoming war against Batman. It would be Batman’s final battle, according to him. Punchline was assigned to find Catwoman and fight her. This led to her even coming in contact with Harley Quinn - eventually battling both too; the outcome was that Punchline took something from Catwoman so she could steal the entire Wayne fortune from Batman.
It was Lex Luthor, not the Joker, who then first battled Batman. During that battle, Punchline was holding Mercy Graves hostage so that the Joker could deal with Lex Luthor (after all, he wanted to finish of Batman, not let someone else do it). But they let both go, claiming it was all a mad joke.

The Actual Happening of the Joker War

So, now the Joker was in control of the Wayne Fortune and Wayne Enterprises. Should have been an easy win, right? Especially when Punchline captured Lucius Fox and took control of Batman’s equipment. She even caught Batman by surprise when being in a new Batsuit and using her version of the Joker Venom. After all of that, a new vigilante showed up - Clownhunter. The one who, obviously, wanted to attack all of Joker’s followers (including Punchline). Punchline warned the Joker, but he didn’t listen to her. After that, a row of events happened where Harley Quinn, Batman, Poison Ivy, Punchline, and the Joker all joined the mess, and some got into heavy fights and joined sides they normally never would have.

Powers & Abilities in the DC Universe

Say it with me: all DC characters have special abilities worth mentioning. I think, by now, you know that. So let’s look at those of Punchline, shall we?

Punchline’s Abilities

Overall, Punchline’s powers are not that interesting due to her not having fallen in a bath filled with toxins or having gone through some kind of radiation. Meaning that she does not have any specific superpowers. However, she is still very much skilled at what she does. For example, Punchline has a basic understanding of hand-to-hand combat and toxicology. Which has gotten her quite far, but she is also skilled in mimicry (the ability to exactly copy - mimic - another person) and acrobatics.

Punchline’s Knowledge of DC Weaponry

But the most impressive skill Punchline has, is her knowledge in weaponry. And not only her knowledge but also her ability to use these weapons. Punchline is known to wield daggers when she is in combat. Due to many trainings with this, she has harmed many other known heroes and villains within the DC Universe. This includes Harley Quinn and Catwoman - who she injured when first meeting them.

Punchline’s Special Weapon

As such a skilled person in weaponry (she would have absolutely loved Weaponomics at Metropolis University, don’t you think?), it only makes sense that Punchline has some strange weapons, too. Of course, she has her daggers, as previously mentioned. However, there is also something else. Punchline has her own blend of the Joker Venom; it even contains some Fear Toxin. Yeah, it’s quite interesting.
Punchline really does seem like an interesting character, don’t you think? Have you heard about her before? Or was this your first time? Let us know in the comments and receive a small gift.
