Song of the Week
Edition 8

Hey Metahumans! My name is Amethyst Jackson and in this bi-weekly blog, called Song of the Week, we will talk about music. Through this blog, I will take you on a journey to explore songs from every genre of music and see how they relate to the DC Universe. Let's get into it for today! This week's song is...

Pink Skies

Zach Bryan

The kids are in town for a funeral
So pack the car and dry your eyes
I know they got plenty of young blood left in 'em
And plenty nights under pink skies you taught 'em to enjoy

So clean the house, clear the drawers, mop the floors, stand tall
Like no one's ever been here before or at all
And don't you mention all the inches that are scraped on the doorframe
We all know you tiptoed up to 4'1" back in '08

If you could see 'em now, you'd be proud
But you'd think they's yuppies
Your funeral was beautiful
I bet God heard you comin'

....

Trivia

This song was incredibly popular on the social media app TikTok.
While it might sound older, it was only released this year (2024).
Many people feel like they can relate to this song, which made it so popular.
The song would classify as a country song.

What is Country?

Before getting into the relation with the DC Universe and our league agains, let's find the definitions of country music. It is said to be “a style and genre of largely string-accompanied American popular music having roots in the folk music of the Southeast and cowboy music of the West, usually vocalised, generally simple in form and harmony". Which I believe describes it pretty well. It is music which doesn't necessarily feel incredibly sad, but more likely gives a smile on your face - but it can still be pretty painful if you listen to the lyrics.

Related to the Leagues

I know, we have placed most song in the elemntal league, but don't you think this would as well? Where are all the aerokinesis people at? (You get it... because of the sky element...) The style and the vibes just seems very nature-like, wouldn't you agree? Mostly because the songs text in country have a lot of emotional connections with nature elements.

Thank you so much everyone for reading this week's edition! If you have any song suggestions or just want to share your opinion - comments on this article or send them to me!

Many Meta Thanks,

Amethyst Jackson
