Nubia: Honorable Amazonian Warrior

Nubia: A Brief History

The DC Universe has many incredible characters and actually a lot of those are women, so why not shine a spotlight on one of these badass warriors today, shall we? Because it’s time for Nubia, Guardian of Doom’s Doorway, Queen of Themyscira, and Queen of all Amazons. And it only makes sense for a character like one of the queens of DC’s Amazons would have an interesting history. This is what we’ll get into right now!

Nubia: The Warrior

Actually, Nubia wasn’t simply born as an Amazon (which I don’t think you even can be…), she was known as Zahavah, the princess of an ancient kingdom on Madagascar first. She led her kingdom into war, but was betrayed and her lieutenent took the throne. Zahavah was reborn after that, around the same time as Princess Diana - thus they are usually seen as sisters (isn’t that cute?). Afterwards, Nubia took on the role as Guardian of Doom’s Doorway in the caves of Themyscira, all by herself. She came back from this job when Darkseid’s daughter was attacking Queen Hippolyta. Nubia pretended to support her, but was actually (and would always be) on the side of the Amazons.

Nubia: The Wonder Woman… Or Queen?

Diana departed and thus the role of Wonder Woman was up for grabs. Many Amazons fought for it, but Hippolyta decided that whoever could look at Medusa’s head, would be allowed to become the next Wonder Woman. Only Nubia dared to take on the task. But instead of finding Medusa’s head, she found a golden crown - because Queen Hippolyta had decided to give her own role to Nubia, not the one of Wonder Woman.
Being queen was far from easy for Nubia - strange things happened. There were many new Amazons, Penelope received a vision of Themyscira’s destruction, no one watched over Doom’s Doorway due to which Medusa’s spirit escaped, she got hold of the Staff of Understanding, Medusa became an Amazon, and so on.

Nubia: Dealing With Political Tension

Diana, Donna Troy, and Cassie Sandsmark came back to Themyscira - at the same time as the Amazons of Bana-Mighdall and the ones of Esquecida did. Creating a certain tension between the two groups of Amazons. They even hosted a tournament for all three tribes - whoever would win would become guardian to Doom’s Doorway and the ruler of which tribe this person was from, would becoming ruler of all Amazons. All leaders accepted. Phillippus was the tribute for Themyscira, Donna Troy for Bana-Mighdall, Yara Flor for Esquecida, and Diana joined all on her own. Though, not much of the battle happened when the God of Chaos escaped, wanting to destroy the tribes, being joined by many other monsters. The different tribes united and destroyed the Chaos, uniting all tribes at the end and crowning Nubia the Queen of all Amazons.

Nubia: Powers & Abilities

As a warrior and an Amazon, it isn’t strange that Nubia would have several powers. Or, at least, some impressive abilities. No worries, because she definitely has those. Being an Amazon will give you certain Amazonian traits. These are are mostly superhuman abilities (such as superhuman strength, durability, stamina, and agility), as well as immortality. Nubia also had her Amazonian training, which means that she is amazing in hand-to-hand combat (holding the record of most knock-outs), swordmanship, archery, equestrianism, and dealing with spears. That is not even where the list stops, because Nubia also knows how to play the lyre and has quite some leadership skills. Is that where it stops? Nope, because she is also a master in deception and tactical analysis. She can probably do even more, though… But these are the ones most worth mentioning!

Nubia’s Important Equipment

When doing whatever it is she does, Nubia doesn’t do it completely alone. She has her ‘equipment’ - such as her swords, staff of understanding, and her bow and arrows. There’s also her lyre and her horse (Nia).
