Flatline DC: The Girl with Powers of The Dead

Who is DCs Flatline?

Flatline is an alias in the DC Universe for a girl named Nika. She is actually Russian and used to live in Moscow, but later on, she went on a journey to use her power to the fullest. Eventually, she met Lord Death Man, who soon became her mentee, and she also met Batman and Robin. She has white hair, pink eyes, and grayish white skin. She normally has a pixie-cut and shows up wearing black and white.

Flatline’s Childhood

Being born as “Flatline”

Of course, she wasn’t born with the name Flatline, but she was born as a metahuman. Her family seems pretty normal. Nothing peculiar about them, but also nothing special. Nika has the power to absorb the skills of dead people around her, which sounds pretty odd. When she wasn’t old enough, it made her “happy” whenever a family member died, because that meant she could take their power. Her family didn’t understand her little obsession, but they never really questioned it either.

Eventually, her grandfather passed away. As usual, Nika absorbed his power and saw some visions about him being a serial killer. Nika tried to explain this to her family, but nobody believed her. On the funeral day, Nika “saw” her grandfather explaining about his past. Apparently, he got the absorption ability from a secret experiment, and he also said that his ability could be passed down. He also warned Nika because dangerous people might come for her and her family.

The Truth is Out

The grandfather was of course right. Three armed killers suddenly came and tried to eliminate Nika and the rest of her family members. Using the absorbed powers, Nika fought these armed killers. Unfortunately, her family got scared of her and decided to flee, leaving Nika alone. Ever since then, Nika decided to go on a journey to strengthen herself and absorb more powers.

Flatline and Lord Death Man

Flatline’s Training Methods

After traveling for quite some time, Nika finally reached Tokyo. There, she met Lord Death Man, who soon took her as his sidekick and trained her in martial arts of the DC Universe. This was also when Nika started to be known as DCs Flatline. Lord Death Man, surprisingly, also had an interesting power. He was able to regenerate from any physical damage, which meant during their training, Flatline could kill him many times to absorb his powers, and then he could revive himself also many times. Interesting, but also a bit scary.

Flatline and Robin

After those trainings, Lord Death Man signed Flatline up to participate in League of Lazarus, a death tournament for all the greatest fighters in the DC world. Through this tournament, Flatline was able to absorb a lot more powers from the people that she managed to beat. Eventually, she met Robin - Damian Wayne at the time - and also fought him, who challenged all the participants to fight him, believing that he could win. Unfortunately for him, Flatline came out as the winner.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Flatline has Post-Mortem Skill Absorption, which means she can absorb people’s powers right after they pass away. However, she cannot obtain the skills from the long dead, only the recent ones. Aside from the powers, she is also able to see the memories and experiences of the people she absorbs, which is why she was able to see her grandfather’s life secret. Aside from this power, she also has Spiritual Communication. This second power lets her stay true to herself despite keeping the memories - and possibly feelings - of others.

Abilities

Flatline’s most highlighted ability is her awesome martial arts skills. She learned from various martial arts masters and she always makes sure to learn from her mistakes. Well, her absorption power helps too. Another good thing that came with her power is that she is able to learn from people’s experiences and make sure the bad things do not happen to her. We should truly appreciate how she always learns from everything she sees. Aside from that, she is also fluent in two languages: Russian and English.
