#1027: What's The Deal About?
A Landmark of a Comic
Detective Comics #1027 is what you might call a landmark comic. Peter Tomasi was a big contributer in this comic and he helped to mark Batman's 1,000th appearance (woah - that is a lot, isn't it?); which isn't actually so surpising after 80 years, though. This rather oversized comic anthology came out inSeptember 2020 and brings together a number of the most renowned writers and artists from all throughout Batman's legacy.
The Makers of Detective Comics #1027
This DC Comic book (#1027) has a total of 144 pages and doesn't just tell one story, but rather 12 different tales that take a look at many facets of the Dark Knight. From the darkest corners of Batman's detective skills to the heights of being Gotham City's protector. Contributors include writers (such as: Tom King, Brian Michael Bendis, Peter J. Tomasi, and Greg Rucka, among even more) and illustrators (such as Jim Lee, Ivan Reis, and Rafael Albuquerque, and more).
From Bruce Wayne Being The Best To A Deep-Dive into his parents
Let's take a closer look into the stories from this comic book bundle. As there are a few.
First off,
Blowback by Peter J. Tomasi and Brad Walker. In this comic, Batman digs his way out of a death trap in a sequence that explains why he is the best in the world (or maybe why he thinks he is the best).
The Master Class by Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez is second in the list. This is a murder mystery story featuring the whole Bat-Family (let's be honest, our favourite family) coming together as one, with a focus on team playing and Batman in the mentor role.
Ghost Story is third and written by James Tynion IV and Riley Rossmo. Here, a haunted tale is mixed with some supernatural elements with the detective work of Batman, therefore a mix between logic and mystery.
Detective #26 by Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham contains a meta-story about a less famous detective who dreamed of being Gotham's hero; poor guy gets overshadowed by Batman.
And last comes
A Gift by Marv Wolfman and Emanuela Lupacchino. This is an emotional look back at the life Bruce Wayne's parents hoped he would have versus the one he chose as Batman.

The Characters of Detective Comics #1027
Obviously, a comic book with so many big stories will include several characters (seceral Gotham citizens). Lets have a look at them!
Detective Comics #1027's Main Character
As was kind of expected, Batman/Bruce Wayne is at the top of all these stories. Though, he does show several sides of himself here. From detective to a simplere criminal ass-kicker, showing the many sides of his diverse personality. But overall, still being the Dark Knight we know and love.
The Side Characters
The several other characters include
James Gordon, the Commissioner of Gotham figures in most stories, who brings to the table his long-standing partnership and mutual respect with Batman. Then there is our favourite Bat Family and all of its members: Nightwing, Batgirl, and the Robins, being there to show what a mentor and father Batman can be. And last (but not least) all of the villains: the Joker, Catwoman, Scarecrow, and Penguin; to round out Batman's rogue gallery and further build upon the danger and darkness lurking in Gotham.
Special Items Within Detective Comics #1027
With every comic book, there are also always some fun items that might be introduced (or retruend to the story). In these comics specifically, the Bat-Signal played a big role. This is seen as Gotham's call for help, used by Commissioner Gordon to summon Batman for his role as the city's protector. Then there is the well-known Batarang, Batman’s signature throwing weapon, used to help him fight crime and escape dangerous situations. The amazing Batmobile, making its usual appearance; whether sleek and modern or classic, it’s an essential part of his crime-fighting arsenal. And lastly, a simple utility belt, packed with gadgets like grappling hooks and smoke bombs, kind of Batman's go-to-tool.
