DC’s Krypto: The Superdog!
Krypto, A Loyal Companion
Who doesn’t appreciate the appearance of a family pet in a series? Well, Krypto has the same job to do! Krypto is a pet of Superman that first appear in Adventure Comics #210 in the year of 1955. Its job is to be a loyal canine companion and comrade to the entire Superman family, especially becoming a man’s best friend to Superman. What an adorable pet, isn’t it? He may not always be the most disciplined pet, but Krypto always becomes the long-serving and the defender of Superman's family for the entire time.Powers and Abilities
As a pet to Superman family, it has the same powers as all Kryptonians. It is equipped with a wide array of superpowers, where it was able to survive from Krypton’s destruction and find its way to Earth, just like what Superman did back there thanks to its abilities. It has quite a lot of powers as a Kryptonian biology that shared several abilities as Superman, such as super strength, flight, super speed, freeze and speed breath, heat vision, invulnerability, x-ray vision, superhuman hearing, healing factor. But, Krypto also shared the same traits as the usual dog, which is to be a cute and furry one. The most important thing, Krypto has great natural senses, better than a human-being. Becoming Superman's companion lets it show abilities that Superman doesn’t have.Krypto’s Main Job
Krypto was used to test flight of a rocket to carry the Kal-El baby to Earth. It also has become the main part of saving Superman's family in every situation that leads him to become the best family pet ever.Krypto's Journey

In the early 2000s, Krypto was created as a trap by Brainiac 13. Thankfully, Superman was able to defeat the trap and let Krypto join him to return to the Earth. In fact, Krypto once was a dog from a “false”, which means that it was there as a bad thing.
After that, Krypto was there to help Kal-El’s return to the Earth using a rocket. Kal-El was a teenager when he met Krypto and the two got along and became friends famously. Then, it stays with the young Kal-El until he becomes an adult and famously known as Superman. Superman took his entire time to train the dog and let Krypto join him on almost every mission he has. Krypto also becomes friends with Superman’s friends, where usually Batman always pokes fun at Krypto when Batman and Superman don’t see eye-to-eye.
The Adventures of a Family Pet
Misused Powers
On several missions, especially in the beginning, Krypto has caused several trouble using its power for his new master, Superman. At first, he would scratch at a door to indicate that it wanted to go out. Of course, its scratches turn out to unintentionally gouge big chunks out of the door. Its claws could also do a big harm to villains. He once wounded Mongul II when he came to Earth and almost made him die. Because of that, Krypto was locked away for some time in the Fortress of Solitude with one of Superman Robots to care for him in the meantime.
Its Relationship with Other Superheroes
Since Krypto has a tight bond with Superman, therefore it surprisingly has a violent reaction towards others. Krypto once attacked Kara Zor-El, the Supergirl, even it also used its heat vision and other potentially lethal attacks. Krypto also didn’t have a good bond with Superboy when he needed to take care of Krypto from Superman’s order. It turns into another trouble where Krypto destroys another superheroine named Starfire for destroying her alien garden. But, that kind of relationship does not stay long, because Krypto slowly can develop a close relationship with others. It has a good bond with Conner where Krypto defends Conner and protects him even though Krypto was injured.Krypto’s Current Condition
Right now, Superman took Krypto to his retreat at the Fortress of Solitude and let Krypto play with Superman’s Robot named Ned. Ned also has a job to watch over Krypto and create their new bond. Krypto was also brought to a battle between Superman and Conner against the Black Lantern Superman (Kal-L).At several times, it also spent his days as the Kent family’s pooch where he can play more with Supergirl or Clark and Lois’ son, Jon, or as we know as the Superboy.
Krypto's Big Mission
Krypto once has a big mission to save the Superman family from a portal to the Phantom Zone. It was able to defend the family, especially when an adult Kal-El was trapped in the Phantom Zone, Krypto sensed the smell of Superman and was able to save him. But apparently Krypto was trapped into the Zone. Thankfully, Superman came back to save Krypto’s life and granted him powers.Once when Superman was infected by the Doomsday virus after killing Doomsday, he was forbidden to enter the Fortress of Solitude because he got the virus altered in his DNA. When Batman, Wonder Woman, and Steel find a cure for Superman, Krypto enters an unstable Phantom Zone again to help find a cure. This action shows that Krypto is a loyal dog and would do anything to save its master.
