G.I. Robot: Better Known As J.A.K.E.

The Comic Book Character of G.I. Robot

G.I. Robot, also referred to as J.A.KE., which stands for Jungle Automatic Killer - Experimental I.

Who is G.I. Robot?

G.I. Robot, or J.A.K.E. Was specifically used in World War II. Here, they placed them to take on dangerous missions, which they didn’t just want to send humans on. Plus, G.I. was a good addition to the team. And, as a comic book character, they are just one with a very interesting history.

The Comic Book History of G.I. Robot

Let’s actually get into their history. In 1942, the government started with a top-secret project called Project M. On this project, people such as Professor Mazursky and Doctor Charles Grayson worked, to develop one of the world’s first fully-functional robotic automatons (maybe even the start of the Cyborgs we have at Metropolis University right now). J.A.K.E. (G.I. Robot) was created and actually almost destroyed before ever coming online by Per Degaton (the assistant of Professor Mazurksy who turned out to be a villain) and some other supervillains. Fortunately, they were defeated, and G.I. Robot was still activated.

At that time of the DCU, J.A.K.E. was only programmed for jungle combat, outfitted with several weapons (make that a lot of weapons, actually). Together with Sgt. Coker (a young marine) and another robot (a dog), G.I Robot went on several missions. Most of which turned out to be a succes - G.I. Robot even saved Sgt. Coker’s life several times.

In 1943, J.A.K.E. sacrificed himself to save the lives of a whole marine crew. They got destroyed, but a second model (J.A.K.E. II or G.I. Robot II) was created soon after. Throughout the rest of World War II, this robot fought and even joined the creature commandos.

Where is G.I. Robot now?

Currently, you can watch the adventures of G.I. Robot and the other creature commandos in the DCU TV show called Creature Commandos. It kind of depends on the country you're in, but in most cases, you can watch it on HBO Max.
