Song of the Week
Edition 13
Hey Metahumans! My name is Amethyst Jackson and in this bi-weekly blog, called Song of the Week, we will talk about music. Through this blog, I will take you on a journey to explore songs from every genre of music and see how they relate to the DC Universe. Let's get into it for today! This week's song is...
Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton
It takes and it takes and it takes
And we keep loving anyway.
We laugh and we cry and we break
And we make our mistakes.
And if there's a reason I'm by her side
When so many have tried
Then I'm willing to wait for it.
I'm willing to wait for it.
....
Trivia
This song premiered in 2015 with the Broadway show.
As said, this song is part of the Broadway show Hamilton, where it is sung by the character of Aaron Burr.
The original cast member singing this song was Leslie Odom Jr.
This song, along with the rest of the musical, was written by Lin-Manual Miranda.
What is ballad music?
With this song, we are sticking to the same genre as last time - ballad music. Let's quickly recap last time's words:
ballad songs can simply be described as a song 'which tells a story through its music and lyrics'. Like they do in musicals. Not a story in a way that it is a love song (obviously, it can be) - but that it also follows the structure of actual story writing. This song, Wait For It, is specifically a tender pop ballad, but one which also has some elementants of Jamaican dancehall music. It's very unique due to its uniqueness, and different from the rest of the Hamilton soundtrack.
Related to the Leagues
Hmmm, it is always difficult to connect songs like these to the leagues - but definitely not something impossible! Because... have you thought about psammokinesis from the Elemental league? And I'm not just saying that because the cover of Hamilton looks kind of like sand (okay, maybe a little). But just the flow of the music, it makes one feel like you're standing on top of a mountain made of sand, trying to make your next decision. Grounding yourself to the Earth.
Thank you so much everyone for reading this week's edition! If you have any song suggestions or just want to share your opinion - comments on this article or send them to me!
Many Meta Thanks,
Amethyst Jackson
