Kite-Man: Soaring Through the Air

The Origin's of Kite-Man

A Man Called Charles Brown

Charles Brown (not to be confused with Arthur Charles Brown, Cluemaster) was someone with a love for kites from an early age, as well as a pension for theft. That's why he started doing petty crime and assisting bigger villains with their schemes in the Gotham world of crime scene. Never actually being a major player, but still an important pawn.

Charles Brown's Past Time

As said, Charles Brown... or rather, Kite-Man, was more one for petty crimes and not doing a lot that shifted things around. Although, he did help design the Jokermobile. But otherwise, he wasn't of much note to villains and heroes alike, allowing him time to have a family. His son, Charles Jr., was his pride and joy and shared his love of kites with him. Charles was a true family man.

Charles Brown Becoming Kite-Man

Kite-Man in The War of Jokes and Riddles

When the Riddler and the Joker went to war over who was allowed to kill Batman (not-so-fun times), Batman sought out Brown for assistance due to his previous connections to the Clown Prince of Crime (the Joker). Brown agreed to become a mole for Batman, which also displeased the Riddler, who poisoned the rope of Charles Jr.’s (yes, Kite-Man's kid) favorite kite. Which made Brown loose his son. As a result, his wife also left him.

Charles' New Identity: Kite-Man

Griefstriken and enraged, Brown finally took up the villainous identity of Kite-Man, creating his own costume and joining the Joker’s side in the war, now becoming a much bigger villain, in an effort to get vengeance on both the Riddler and Batman. Riddler was responsible for actually having him lose his son, but Batman’s request was the reason Riddler did it in the firt place. And thus, Brown concluded that both needed to get removed from the scene. Kite-Man was not thought highly of by heroes or villains, because everyone thought that he and his gimmicks were laughable, only pushing him to be more loyal to the Joker and become an even bigger villain.

Manipulating Kite-Man

After Batman teamed up with the Riddler to end the war with as few casualties as possible, they chose Kite-Man to be the last of Joker’s soldiers to remain; due to the fact that he was easy to manipulate. They easily convinced him to give them Joker’s location so that they could take him down, but he still hated the Riddler and wanted to see him taken down. Due to that, Brown sided with Batman again in the end and tricked the Riddler into using special kites in his final attack, resulting in Batman winning in the end.

Kite-Man as we Know Him

Kite-Man's Special Kites

The thing Kite-Man is most known for, is his specialty: kites (bet you didn't see that one coming). He uses these in his schemes. Some can be used as transportation, others are weapons or tools for his attempts at theft. While he himself isn’t much of a threat, he also sells his kites to others to use in their own crimes - which does become quite a threat. The fact that he is something of a unique arms dealer increases the concerns heroes have about him. When a kite is used in a crime, Batman and his allies always know the first person to look for.

Kite-Man in the Present Day

Kite-Man remains a petty criminal to this day, still using his kites to commit crimes. His lack of a desire to harm people who are not the Riddler generally makes him a low priority, but he is still someone to pay attention to due to his lifetime of criminal activity. There is no sign that his reign of terror will come to an end any time soon.
