Neron: A Demon of Power
By now, we know that DC Comics has plenty of nast and powerful villains - out of which Neron is definitely one of the ones who embodies manipulation and raw evil. He is a demon from the very depths of Hell, and he is notorious for his power to tempt heroes and villains alike with their heart's desire in return for their souls. With unlimited supernatural ability and a potential for making deadly bargains, Neron is definitely a super interesting one.
Neron: DC Origins
Neron initially was seen in Underworld Unleashed #1 (1995), a large crossover series created by Mark Waid and artist Howard Porter. The story revolved around Neron's scheme of giving power to villains and heroes if they would sell him their souls. Neron is the opposite of most traditional demons that employ raw muscle, since his greatest strength lies in his silver tongue, manipulating others to relinquish their humanness willingly.
Neron's Powers and Abilities
Neron is an extremely powerful demon whose abilities make him a real threat to even the most powerful DC heroes (but then again, we don't expect much else from DC nowadays). Some of his most interesting powers include the following:
Reality Manipulation
Neron can distort reality itself, bending the laws of nature according to his whim.
Superhuman Strength and Durability
As a top-tier demon, he is impossibly strong and nearly unkillable.
Soul Bargaining
He employs his own power in bargaining and presents individuals with their heart's wish in exchange for the prices of their soul or slavery.
Dark Magic
Neron possesses very powerful dark magic which enables him to put spells on people, summon demons, and play mind games with individuals.
Immortality
Since he is a demon, he doesn't undergo the process of aging and is unkillable with any standard defeat.
Shape-Shifting
He may assume any guise, typically that of a handsome businessman who tricks mortals into his contracts.
Distinguished Storylines with Neron
Underworld Unleashed (1995)
This is Neron's greatest moment in DC history, probably. He corrupts a host of villains, enhancing their abilities in exchange for their loyalty. He corrupts heroes, including The Flash and Green Lantern. His goal is to gain a truly pure soul, which he believes is that of Shazam. His plan fails, and he is banished back to Hell.
Hell to Pay (1997)
Here, Neron schemes revenge against the Flash family, Wally West in particular. He manipulates to make them have chaos in their lives but is again outwitted by them. This storyline makes him a force to be reckoned with as a major supernatural villain of DC Comics.
Rebirth and The New 52
Even though Neron has not been as central in the more modern DC storylines, he still continues to be an off-stage player in many of the supernatural wars. Through The New 52 and Rebirth eras, he keeps controlling heroes and villains and resurfaces now and then to bring destruction to Hell and the other planes of existence.
Neron in Other Media
Neron has also appeared in other media, most prominently in DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 4. There, he is a manipulative and deceptive figure who plays tricks on human souls through deceit. This is a slightly different take on his comic version, but still decidedly his original persona.
