The 100th Edition Special
As you may have seen, a survey has been sent out to you in the mails, rather recently. This survey was sent as a fun experiment for this 100th edition of DC-related blogs. Something we wanted to celebrated together! The survey was about your favourite character, giving you a chance to explain exactly why this was you favourite character. In total we received 47 responses to the survey - with a total of 28 DC characters being mentioned.YOUR Favourite Characters
Which 28 DC Characters were mentioned, you may wonder? Well, below there is a list of these and how much they were mentioned:
As one can see, there are quite a lot of characters which were only mentioned once, but three very clearly were the biggest favourites: Batman, Poison Ivy, and Wonder Woman. Reasons for picking Batman were (for example) that he is a serial adopter (I mean, he did indeed adopt a lot of the Robins) or because he fights for justice without asking any glory; but the main reason people liked Batman, was because he kicked some serious butt without having any cool abilities or superpowers.
As for Poison Ivy? The reasons behind picking her as a favourite where wholely different. Most people think Poison Ivy might not always fight for the right things - but she does stand behind her point of view. She will do anything to get across her point. And most MH Users and DC Fans seem to appreciate that!
And lastly, Wonder Woman. One reason in particular which was beautiful, was someone stating "I just like how confident she is! It really helps me with my confidence as well!" And isn't that just a great thing about a DC Character? When they help you believe in yourself!
Statics Behind the Favourite Characters
Maybe, just like us - you were also super curious to see if there was any relation in character information (note, this is all IN-CHARACTER/IN-GAME, so no IRL information has been used for this) and favourite DC character. And yes, we actually did notice something!For example: a lot of female IG users answered with Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, and Nightwing as their favourite character. Whereas men mostly picked Batman and The Flash. Non-Binary IG users? They couldn't agree on one favourite and mentioned several characters which came out highest!
As for IG users below the age of 18, Batman was a big favourite and clearly a huge inspiration for most of them. Whereas IG users aged 18-30, where the big Harley Quinn fans and users aged 30+ (including someone over the age of 700) where just dog lovers, aka fans of Krypto.
Most users filling in the survey are currently in their first year at Met-U, which means it wasn't a surprise that Batman was also the one picked the most among this category. As for the users in year 2 all the way to year 6, there was no clear winner (though, shout out to the only year 4 users, who also happened to be the only users answering Bat-Girl). In the case of year 7 users? Sadly none filled in the survey, but there were three clear favourites among graduates: Krypto, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy.
Now, on MH we also of course have the four leagues? Do you think league might have influenced your favourite DC Character? Well, probably not, because in the whole Cosmic League - no user filled in the same characters... Which might even be the most interesting statistic! Two Cyborgs filled in Batman, but besides that the Cyborg League was also pretty divided. In the Elemental League, they were a bit more on one team for Batman and Krypto, but there were still several different answers; whereas the highest chosen DC Character within the Hybrid League was Wonder Woman. Should we make these character the mascots for the Leagues now? Or do you think we're still to divided to do that...?
Some Favourite Reasonings
Of course, we couldn't leave out some special mentions. Because people did actually have a good and deep reason as for picking a character (well, besides the one choosing Wonder Woman because it was the only character they knew - which is also a valid reason, to be completely honest, just not that deep compared some others).Take for example this one person, stating that Poison Ivy was their favourite character because they could "respect her love for plants" and thought she was a beautiful "eco-lady". Which really is true and quite an inspiring thing about Poison Ivy.
Someone picking Harley Quinn as their favourite character also had a special reason which we'd like to share: "While most people find her a terrible character and a horrible person I think her journey and character development was so interesting you almost have to admire her for it. From being a college student and well rounded psychologist to jumping in a pool of toxin to prove loyalty to the person she loved it’s hard to argue that isn’t some of the greatest development for a villain." Yes, not all that Harley Quinn has done was right - but her development was incredibly interesting, as was her motivation.
Let's highlight a character not mentioned before, for a moment. Jonathan Kent, aka Superboy - who was only mentioned once, but with a sweet reason. Because really, Jonathan is just trying to find his place in the superhero world, having to follow in his father's footsteps. "He is adorable and fun - he is the one who got me into DC." A good reason, for sure!
AND LET'S NOT FORGET - Our Dear Krypto. Who deserves his own whole shout out page, to be completely honest. Yes, the reasoning behind picking him might just be "he's a cute little dog and I love dogs", but isn't that exactly enough reasoning for Krypto? Because he is amazing!
But also many characters were simply picked because we love the way they can make us laugh, or because they inspire us. Maybe we found ourselves in one of the characters and were able to resonate with them. Or we just really liked their looks! Because really, we all have one thing in common; and that is loving each of these characters and the DC Universe. A love we are incredibly happy to share with all of you.
