Detective Comics #28 is actually one of the very first Detective Comics stories. Featuring (obviously) Batman, but also many different stories. Not even all of them taking place in the usual Gotham! This edition has a cover date of June, 1939.

    The Stories

    In Detective Comics #28, there are a total of nine stories taking place. To keep it exciting, we wont be mentioning the synopsis of all of them. So let’s just go into the first one - ”Frenchy Blake's Jewel Gang”.

    Synopsis for ”Frenchy Blake's Jewel Gang”

    As the name already suggests, jewel robberies are happening. Obviously, Batman goes to check this out and learns that it’s a gang run by Frenchy Blake causing this. He learns that the next target is the Vandersmiths and waits on their rooftop - here he sees part of the thieves leaving the apartment. Batman attacks them and… basically kicks them of the rooftop. Although, this kind of take a turn as suddenly people are suspecting Batman of being the head of the jewel thieves. Frenchy Blake thinks he is all safe now, as the police is not suspecting Frenchy anymore, but Batman instead. Obviously, however, Batman is watching him… and manages to catch him just like that!

    Characters of Detective Comics #28

    As expected, the main character of this story is Batman, but Commissioner Gordon also plays a rather big part in this story. With Frenchy Blake as the main antagonist. Besides these most important characters, there are also Gimpy, the Vandersmiths, the Nortons, and the NYC Police Department.

    Locations of Detective Comics #28

    Most of this story takes place in New York City, specifically in their police department. However, the Wayne Manor also makes a brief appearance - just like Batman’s Red Sudan!
