Who is Martian Manhunter?

J'onn J'onzz, known as the Martian Manhunter, is a Green Martian from Mars (Ma'aleca'andra). Dr. Saul Erdel's teleportation experiment brought him to Earth. J'onn became a founding member of the Justice League after taking on the human persona of Detective John Jones after getting separated and unable to return home.

Martian’s Personality

Because of his alien origin and the trauma of losing his species, J'onn is known for his peaceful, calm manner and frequently appears distanced. Origins on Mars

J’onn J’onzz was born on Mars (Ma’aleca’andra), a peaceful world where he stayed with his wife and daughter. J'onn was dedicated to justice and a well-respected Manhunter, a Martian law enforcement official. However, his life was destroyed when his twin brother, Ma'alefa'ak, used the Martian race's collective telepathy as a fatal flaw to release a telepathic virus that wiped them off. J'onn lived, but the loss of his species and family left him mentally damaged.

Arrival on Earth

Dr. Saul Erdel, a scientist, transferred J'onn to Earth while he suffered alone. After seeing J'onn, Erdel passed away from shock, leaving the Martian alone on an alien planet. J'onn adopted the persona of "John Jones," a police investigator, by disguising himself as a human using his shapeshifting skills. He eventually accepted Earth as his new home during this period after learning to appreciate and comprehend human civilization.

Becoming the Martian Manhunter

J'onn assumed the role of the Martian Manhunter and exposed his true identity when crime-fighting changed. He was one of the most powerful heroes on Earth because of his special abilities and strong moral sense. He quickly became a founding member of the Justice League and a highly trusted team member, joining forces with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and others to form the organization.
