Peacemaker: When You Love Peace a Little Too Much

Ever wondered who Peacemaker was? Don’t worry, this blog will let you know everything about him

He is known under multiple aliases in the DC Universe, the others including Mitchell Black and Christopher Schmidt. But most well known is the alias Peacemaker. He is without a doubt an interesting character – described as a superhero, who loves peace so much that he is willing to kill for it, he originally emerged in the year of 1966 through the comic Fightin’ 5 #40. The character was created by Joe Gill and Pat Boyette, and is without a doubt a rather interesting one.

The History of Peacemaker

A vigilante, Peacemaker is mainly known for his role as a peace agent. Said to love peace so much, that he would kill for it, he is rather extremist when it comes to that. His real name is Christopher Smith, and he was born to Wolfgang Schmidt, an industrialist, and an Author, Elizabeth Lewis. Despite being born in New York City, he was raised in Austria, where his father also came from. His upbringing was privileged – he had a loving and dedicated mother, and the house filled with staff that ensured everything could run smoothly, money was not tight. He was incredibly smart, and attended a private school outside of Vienna, and his teacher’s spoke of him as a bright child. His father had a rather serious past, which caused him to leave the place on Christopher’s fifth birthday, an event that was said to traumtise him for the rest of his life.

After what happened with his father, Elizabeth and him returned to the US, where they changed their last name to Smith. The trauma of losing his father, and the sudden loss of familiar surroundings affected young Christopher, who changed much as a child, losing his brightness and becoming a sullen, gloomy child. On top of this, he began lashing out – he was much bigger than the other kids, allowing him to become a bully who picked on them. He provoked fights often, and by the age of eight his teacher’s deemed him unmanageable. As he grew up, it did not get much better, as he was considered a “problem” child.

Later in Peacemaker’s life

At the age of eighteen, he enlisted in the US Army; he was sent to Vietnam, to act as a soldier under The Vietnam War. Affected by the belief that his father spoke to him, Christopher ended up attacking a small village, which had horrible consequences. As he was the leader of the scouting mission that had led them there, he was the sole scapegoat. His actions landed him 20 years in prison. Christopher ended up being given parole, by saying yes to working on Project: Peacemaker with them. This was a project that was meant to fight terrorism. He accepted and excelled, even though the program was shut down before it could officially start; it did mean that he was a free man after. Returning to the Austria, he became a millionaire by continuing his father’s business, using his own money to fund charity organisation and creating his own Project: Peacemaker, which was meant to help achieve peace within the DC world. This would be done in two ways: as his civilian self, through the charities he worked with, and as the hero Peacemaker. Being harassed by his father’s spirit and his mental illnesses getting worse, Peacemaker began getting more and more extreme in his want for peace, causing the extreme lengths he went to.

Peacemaker’s Abilities and Gear

Peacemaker obtained most of his abilities through his training in the military and the Project: Peacemaker program. He has advanced knowledge of hand-to-hand combat, and a well-rounded knowledge of firearms. Through his time as a scouting leader under the army, he became great with tactical analysis. He is able to fly in two ways – through his jet pack, and through his fighter jet, which also had machine guns, missiles, and an AI pilot. His body armor is made of bulletproof fabric, and so is his helmet. His helmet also have the ability to create a sonic burst which can end up leaving enemies deafened temporarily.
