The Detroit League: The New Version
The Detroit League, as it has been said, is the new version of The Justice League of America in the Detective Comics (DC) series. It consists of a brand new roster hired by Aquaman, who is in charge and also the founding member of the original league from DC. This new league was reconstituted with a new roster, young and fresh. Based on the name, The Detroit League was based in Detroit, Michigan.
The Detroit League was made after the first team, the original league, disbanded and destroyed during the Martian invasion of Earth (pre-Crisis). Aquaman disbanded the team and made the new one, recruiting a young man called Hank Heywood III. After that, the team continues to grow and faces several cases in the future.
The Beginning of The Detroit League
Member’s Recruitment

The beginning of the team made by Aquaman, who recruited Hank Heywood III was brought the team to a different level. Other than Hank, Aquaman continues to recruit more fresh faces, which are the street urchin Gypsy, the mysterious Vixen, and Vibe, the Latino hero. This new team was also guided by the veterans, including Zatanna, Martian Manhunter, and the Elongated Man.
The New Base Operations
Hank Heywood III, the first member of the Detroit League, was the grandson of Commander Steel, the Golden Age hero. Commander Steel was already hoping to see his grandson become a proper hero and willingly give everything to support that. Therefore, he leased one of his Detroit facilities as a base of operations for The Detroit League. In order to maintain the base’s facility, Dale Gunn, who is Commander Steel’s colleague, helps take care of it.
Detroit’s Enemies

The making of the team has its own purpose, and it is not just to form a fresh team. They were made to face more villains in town. During the time of the league, they faced the Overmaster (and the Cadre), General Maksai, Amazo, the Royal Flush Gang, and Professor Ivo. Most of the villains still intended to destroy the continuously Justice League team.
Help From The Veterans
Fortunately, the old Justice League, including Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, and Black Canary, joined forces with the new team to face the villains. Nevertheless, Aquaman chose to leave the team after reconnecting with his wife, Mera, and gave the leadership position to Martian Manhunter. This brings the old team and the new team to work together on the threat happening around them from the villains.
How It Ends
The team lasted for quite a long time in a few years. Unfortunately, during the process of facing the villain, the team failed to stop Brimstone during Darkseid’s Operation: Humiliation. From that, one member left the team and another villain continued to destroy the remaining members. Vibe was killed, Gypsy was almost killed, and Steel was wounded. The last standing member of The Detroit League was Vixen, who left Martian Manhunter in the team. That makes Martian Manhunter the only veteran member in the team and he decided to continue to the next incarnation that became Justice League International.
Even though the team didn’t last quite long, its journey is really interesting! Moreover, the veteran’s part in helping them and trying to destroy the villains was totally a great combination! Therefore, what do you think about this new version of Justice League on DC?
