The New 52: Starting from #1

The New 52!
In 2011, DC Comics started republishing a whole lot (read: 52, as the name would suggest) of the comics people were to known and love. Or well, they didn’t even only republish them. They rewrote a lot of stories, there were new drawings, whole new stories - and almost everyone absolutely loved it! A whole new line and a whole new DC!
Why The New 52?
So, the New 52 was done to kind of give DC a whole new start. To still celebrate the characters everyone loved and their stories, to never stop loving them. Because really what it did, was once again show love for those stories. Not just the old stories we already know, DC also expanded and added a whole new line of tales to tell. Obviously, they also discontinued a few stories and characters, which was sad to see - but they did give a lot of new things. This was also the series where more about the multiverse was revealed, explaining that there existed a total of 52 parallel universes in the DC Universe at that time. They really love the number 52 over there.
The first Wave of The New 52
They started publishing The New 52 in September of 2011 (or well, the first one even came out end of August). The first wave of the New 52 included titles such as
Detective Comics (Volume 2) #1,
Static Shock #1,
Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E. #1, and
Batman and Robin (Volume 2) #1. After this First Wave, a total of 9 other waves followed - all containing a whole lot of more comics for this event.
Entering DC Rebirth

Once the publishing of the New 52 was all done and DC was basically stuck for a moment… or well… that was what everyone thought. They were actually already working on a new concept. Or well, a concept that continued rebuilding on the New 52. It took its name from the comics
The Flash: Rebirth and
Green Lantern: Rebirth written by Geoff Johns - and the series would focus on the characters durin the post-crisis.
What’s Next?
The New 52 had all been published by the time the DC Rebirth series came around, so we don’t expect more of those. As for the DC Rebirth, it seems like DC finished those as well. The last edition was published in 2017 (although, one could say that only in 2021 the events truly ended), and DC hasn’t mentioned continuing this series. It seems like it came to a good end.
However, that obviously does not mean that was the end of DC. Quite the opposite, as they are still publishing tons of comics - to not forget about the shows and movies we all love and will continue to discuss in these blogs!
What do you think about the new 52? Have you read a bunch of them? Or do you prefer the old edition?
