Green Arrow: Another Vigilante

Who is Green Arrow?

Green Arrow, or Oliver Jonas “Ollie” Queen, is a vigilante who mainly operates in Star City and Seattle. As per his name, he uses a bow and arrow to fight crime. He’s also known as Arrow and Dark Hunter, and at some point, Agent Queen and Aquaman (interesting…). He’s affiliated with the Justice League and Seven Soldiers of Victory. Aside from being a vigilante, Green Arrow is also a businessman. Sounds almost similar to Batman, no?

Green Arrow’s Appearance

Green Arrow usually appears with a green hood, holding his (also) green bow with his arrows in his quiver. He has (again) green eyes and blond hair, weighs 176 pounds (80 kg) with 5' 10" (177.8 cm) height. His first appearance is in the Green Arrow comics Vol 5 #1, which was published in November 2011.

Green Arrow’s Early History

Oliver Queen had quite a past. He was the young heir to Queen Industries, a billion dollar corporate dynasty. Too bad, Oliver didn’t really behave as what his father expected. He was reckless and he did as he pleased. His father, Robert, decided to send him to work on an oil rig in the Pacific. He was hoping that this might change how Oliver behaved, seeing that it was far from everything that he was used to.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t what happened. Oliver turned the rig into a hub for his parties. One day, a helicopter came. It was supposed to be carrying a famous rock star for the party, but the helicopter was hijacked. So instead, it was commanded by terrorists who later on took over the rig.

Oliver didn’t want to stay quiet. He decided to face the terrorist leader, even though he only had a bow and arrow in hand - something that he had been training for life. His friend, Tommy Merlyn, warned him not to, but Oliver ignored the warning. Unfortunately, the terrorists had a detonator that would make a battery of explosives explode. Some of these explosives were wrapped around Leena, Oliver’s girlfriend.

Knowing this, Oliver didn’t give up. Somehow, he expelled the detonator from the terrorists’ hand. However, the button was accidentally pushed once being expelled. It blew up half the rig and, of course, killed Leena in the process. Oliver, on the other hand, was saved by Tommy, who suffered from bad burns due to the saving attempt.

After this incident, Oliver somehow washed up on the shore of Starfish Island. On that island, he attempted to survive for a year with only his bow and arrow. The island was not completely deserted, since he also met some masked figures and dealt with a lot of problems during the year. Eventually, he was rescued. Ever since, he changed as a person. He was no longer Oliver Queen who made bad decisions and acted out.

After his return, he learned about the Gotham blackout. He also heard that his mother, Moira Queen, went there to help. He realized that his mother could be in danger, and that was why he decided to go to Gotham to find her. He joined Batman in stopping a villain, and it was his debut as Green Arrow.

Green Arrow’s Powers and Abilities

Green Arrow isn’t known to have a superpower like most metahumans. However, he does have special abilities that help him in day-to-day lives as well as in fighting crimes.

Green Arrow’s Abilities

Archery. Of course, we stand by the name. Green Arrow is very skilled in archery. He has learned this since his teenage years under the training of a master assassin, The Help. He also trained under Merlyn afterwards. He is also capable of using any kinds of bows and arrows (apparently there are also alien-technology bows).
Acrobatics
Aviation. He is able to fly planes.

Driving
Gadgetry
Hunting
Indomitable Will. With his will, Green Arrow can resist pain and power through battles.
Interrogation
Intimidation
Investigation. Like Batman (see?), he is also a great detective.
Martial Arts: Boxing, Judo, Karate, and Muay Thai. He trained under Wildcat to be able to master these.
Peak Human Condition. Even though he doesn’t have superpowers, he is strong on his own. Even his bow weighs 150 pounds (around 68 kg)!

Survival. He was able to survive on a deserted island for a year only with his bow and arrow.
Swimming
Tactical Analysis. He is able to read his opponent’s stance and body language.
Thievery: Pickpocketing. Not a skill that one has to learn from him. lol
Throwing. This means he has great aim!
Tracking
Weaponry: Firearms, Swordsmanship, Stick Fighting.

Green Arrow’s Equipment

Green Arrow Suit. This suit consists of a hood and quiver. He usually wears this suit when going on missions.
