Metahuman Classes

Edition #13

Psychology

Hello, Metahumans! Welcome to a new edition of 'Metahuman Classes'. In this blog, we talk about the different classes we have on our site. This week we'll talk about... Psychology!

Why do we learn it?

As a hero (or villain), you can't just be a professional in fighting. Just knowing everything about weapons and powers won't get you far. If you want to be a hero or a villain you also have to know how people think, and what are the theories behind what a person might do. Why would they even do that in the first place? These things are important.

What do we learn?

In psychology, you will learn all about the mind and how people interact with each other. This subject will start out with sociology and its theories. Slowly it builds up to real, difficult, psychology.

Interviews

We can't talk about Psychology without getting either Minyoung Yoon or Alla Yildiz here, am I right? This is why I have an interview with them for you!

Minyoung, Master of Psychology

Minyoung knows a lot about her subjecct and is always ready to share her knowledge with her students.

Interview:

Why did you want to become the Master of Psychology and not the Master of another subject?
I suppose it's because of my restricted interest, I was going to be an IRL psychologist so that made since, but when Amb told me I could put sociology with it, since they're the two big social sciences and they work well together I knew I had to take it- personally I don't think I would be able to teach another subject because I don't have as much passion for a lot of things as I do for this class and it's subject matter, I spend hours off-site just reading and learning, and I plan to get a masters in the topics I'm teaching her, so it makes sense for me to teach this and what I know.

If you would be the Master of another subject, what would it be?
A solo sociology class? But speaking classes that already exist? Forensics or Law, I used to be really into law, so I could totally see myself teaching what I know, and Forensics, well, my obsession with crime shows should speak for that.

What is your favorite thing about teaching?
I get to teach people things that spark me joy, and help them maybe find that the subject sparks joy for them as well- not only that but I get to show my passion and knowledge for the subject and rant and see people engage with that, and it makes me really happy. I love reading homework and seeing how much people enjoy, engage and overall, how they view my class and it makes me so happy and make me remember why I love doing this, it's not for the rants, its for seeing everyone engage with my work and getting new perspectives and its just a reminder and helps me keep going.

Is there something you think students should know before taking Psychology?
I am teaching college-level things? This stuff is out of my textbook, but I try to make it easy for everyone to understand, but if it's hard, Alla and I are here 24/7 to help you out and never feel bad about reaching out. This is my passion, and I'd love to explain something better or make it easier- but also that every piece of homework is something I treasure and personally read, so you should all do homework??? But I think most of all, that I want everyone to have fun and enjoy taking the class. It's meant to be fun, and while you can use what I teach IRL, what's most important is that you have fun and enjoy your time in class.

Alla, Master's Aide of Psychology

For a while now, Alla has been the Master's Aide of Psychology. However, she still loves doing the job and helping students out where needed.

Interview:

Why did you choose to become the Master's Aide of Psychology instead of another subject?
Hmmm, I suppose because I just find the subject pretty interesting even if it's not something I personally study IRL (I'm more of an arts person). Delving into the human mind and how it works, plus the way it affects daily life and society within the Sociology portion of the class, is something really intriguing to learn about. It provides a gateway into better understanding ourselves and those around us, which I think is quite valuable. It also provides for some pretty interesting assignments to read since people will answer the same question in many different ways!

What is your favorite thing about working with Master Yoon?
Ooh, I could say many things but I'll keep it short for now, haha. For one, Master Yoon's passion for the subject is really admirable and I love seeing how much work and dedication she puts into crafting her lessons! It really helps me get excited about it as well and hyped to read both the lessons and users' accompanying assignments. They're also just a really nice and understanding person, which makes it easier to know I can approach them with any questions if I need to.

What is your favorite thing about being a Master's Aide?
Definitely getting to admire students' creativity when answering the assignment questions! Not only will every character have a different perspective on a topic but they also all bring their own unique flair to the homework and it's so fun to see people enjoying themselves developing their characters through the lessons. Aside from that, it's also fun to see when people learn new things from the lessons they wouldn't otherwise know, and can now carry that knowledge with them IRL!

What is your best tip for students making Psychology homework?
I second what Master Yoon mentioned about contacting either of us if help is needed with a specific assignment! We understand it can be a lot to take in if you've never learned about Sociology or Psychology before, so it's absolutely not a problem if extra assistance is needed. I'd also say that it's okay to not be to be totally confident in your answers, regardless, and that being 100% correct isn't something you should worry about. After all, what matters is that you have fun with the assignment! Sometimes wrong answers can even turn out more entertaining to both write and read

Conclusion

In conclusion, Psychology might be a bit of a difficult subject. Yet, it is very important and you will learn a lot of things during these five years.

Are you curious about what subject we might discuss next time? Then stay on the lookout for any new blogs that will get published in the future.
