Lex Luthor is one of the most brilliant yet dangerous minds, a man whose intellect equals that of the gods. Growing up in Metropolis, Lex developed a conviction that human potential was boundless, shackled only by alien interference. His genius encompassed engineering, biotechnology, and physics, and from self-made billionaire, he became the head of LexCorp. Behind the public façade of a visionary philanthropist exists a cold calculating strategist whose ego, grudges, and hunger for control drive him. Luthor sees Superman not as a savior, but rather as a hindrance, an alien interloper that holds back the evolution of humankind. In Luthor's mind, to destroy Superman is not evil, it is liberating.

‣ Lex Luthor's History

Lex is a true survivor and his childhood has been far from idyllic. Abusive and neglectful parents have always indoctrinated suspicion against the rest of the world in him and taught him to rely solely on his intellect. He built or inherited LexCorp and turned it into one of the strongest companies in the world, dealing with everything from defense technology to genetics. Innovations of this kind benefited Lex among many others, but his darker ambitions were never very far behind. The preoccupation started the moment Superman, the Kryptonian, found its way into Metropolis; to Lex, an omnipotent alien pronounced humanity degraded and dependent. The obsession devoured him and sent him to create puzzling weapons, might suits, and even ally with others who he called bad. Every defeat only served to sharpen and strengthen his resolve. Lex eventually became not only Superman's greatest nemesis but also a global threat whose web of influence reaches far beyond the borders of Metropolis - an individual as feared for his intellect as for his unforgiving aspects.

‣ Lex Luthor's Relationship

Although Lex's relationships serve a purpose within his grander schemes, a few gain traces of sincerity under the manipulation. The most famous would have to be Superman, where their rivalry develops into a clash between the hope of Superman and the ego of a human Lex. Lex has a cloudy respect for Lois: he admires her intelligence and fearlessness, but he loathes her trusting nature, which abides by Superman. In some continuities, Lex has had ties with characters such as Bruce Wayne, but always with the shadow of mistrust cast over either party. True to his spiteful and arrogant nature, there're those rare instances when Lex gives in to a glimmer of humanity - the moments he sees with conviction that his causes are somehow to the benefit of mankind. But such are lost amid the cloud of arrogance and self-importance that guarantees no human contact comes within his reach. In the end, Lex Luthor stands alone: with profitably made, a man too strong to be broken by weakness but for his brilliance that has turned unto itself.
