SUPERMAN (2025 FILM)Feature Film || Shows & Movies || Written by Kenelm Chapman
title. Superman
release year. 2025
universe. DCU
primary setting. Metropolis
genre. Superhero / Drama
director. James Gunn
central figure. Clark Kent | Kal-El
With a new Superman film scheduled for release in 2025, a reimagined vision for the character is officially entering the new DC Universe while simultaneously retaining his original roots. The new film will not recount Superman's origin story but will reveal him as Clark Kent already established as both a reporter for the Daily Planet and a public hero. This version of Metropolis is alive, skeptical, and politically complex, responding to Superman both as a beacon of hope and a potential threat to the stability of power across the globe.
Clark Kent is compassionate, idealistic, and subtlety conflicted. His struggle is not to master his abilities, but with the knowledge or wisdom as to how to use them in a world that often does not take altruism at face value. For him, the Kryptonian heritage is more of a philosophical weight than a narrative hook-influencing one's sense of duty without determining one's identity. It underlines the fact that Clark's humanity, imbued by the Kents, is what ultimately grounds his morality and sense of justice.
Lois is presented as an assertive, intelligent investigative journalist whose pursuit of truth ignites the film's central conflicts and drives her to approach Superman not as a deity but as a mere mortal; to where she could challenge him with skepticism and integrity while forming a close relationship with Clark Kent.
Lex Luthor
Lex Luthor is the primary antagonist, a calculating industrialist and intellectual competitor of Superman. His opposition arises from fear of unbridled power and not personal vendetta, hence positioning him into being a philosophical counterforce more than a purely physical threat.
The Authority
In as much as it casts a different light on justice, the Authority very quickly reveals Superman's refusal to sacrifice his ethical standards to use brute force in whatever it is that he needs to achieve the opposite. Thus, he becomes that example of heroic principle, which is really highlighted by the Authority's willingness to resort to unrestrained use of brute force.
These establish Superman (2025) to be an involved yet mythic edifice into the DCU inclined towards ideals than spectacle.
